Protego Secures $2 Million in Seed Funding for Serverless Security Platform
Financing Led by Gula Tech Adventures and Glilot Capital Partners
Baltimore, MD – May 9, 2018 – Protego, developer of the first comprehensive security solution built for serverless, today announced it has secured $2 million in seed funding from a team of investors led by Ron Gula of Gula Tech Adventures, Glilot Capital Partners, and several security industry pioneers, including former RSA CTO, Tim Belcher.
“Protego is the first and only platform of its kind that delivers full life-cycle security to serverless applications from deployment to run-time – that can be up and running in just 20 minutes,” said Tsion (TJ) Gonen, CEO and Co-Founder of Protego. “With this investment, Protego will continue to work with customers and partners to broaden our offering and bring the product to market.”
According to Gula, serverless computing represents a transformative step in leveraging the full potential of the cloud, but it will require enterprises to think and act differently about application security. “Serverless offers tremendous improvements in speed, simplicity, and cost-savings, but it also presents a host of new threats and security challenges that traditional application security cannot handle. Protego offers a security solution designed specifically for serverless in mind, putting it at the forefront of this major technology shift,” Gula said.
Protego works by continuously scanning your serverless infrastructure, including functions, logs, and databases, to help increase the application’s security posture and minimize the attack surface. Using machine-based analysis and deep learning algorithms, Protego builds a model of normal function behavior to effectively detect threats, anomalies, and malicious attacks as they initiate and propagate. Protego also identifies and prevents attacks in real time and provides the “minimum effective dose” of protection in the right place, maximizing your security while minimizing your costs.
“As serverless computing upends how information technology is delivered, enterprises will scramble to figure out how to implement proper security,” said Arik Kleinstein, Co-founder & Managing Partner at Glilot Capital Partners. “We are excited to partner with the team at Protego to help them bring a powerful security solution to the serverless space.”
Recently, Protego won the Startup Competition for the most innovative cyber initiative at the Cybertech Tel Aviv 2018 Conference. The competition, powered by YL Ventures, selects the startup that suggests an innovative technology or groundbreaking solution, and demonstrates the best potential to become a successful company.
Protego currently has offices in Maryland and Israel. To learn more about Protego or see a demo visit www.protego.io.
Recognizing the inadequacy of traditional application security paradigms, Protego Labs designed the first comprehensive solution built with the unique constraints and opportunities of serverless in mind. Through continuous serverless security posture, dynamic serverless intelligence, and elastic defense, Protego helps organizations achieve control over the security of their applications.
